I have discovered Microsoft Paint!
(Well, to be accurate, I have discovered how to PAINT with Microsoft paint.)
And so I virtually painted my trunk.
Which (if any) do you prefer?
(click on the image to see the rooms more fully.)
And what colour carpet would you put beneath it?
Thanks.

I vote for the last one - it's warm and picks up the colours in your stripy cushion beautifully. Not sure about the carpet colour - maybe look to the cushion for inspiration?
You mean the dark red one? I'm about to change the photo--Mella suggested black, so I just played around with that.
Funny, I wanted to paint the darn thing red YEARS ago--to go with my (now re-painted) red dining room.
Ah, no. When I looked there were only five photos. I meant the lilac-ish one - first column, at the bottom.
I like the brown best, but I think any but the green and blue work well. That is, the green and blue aren't bad, but it seems like there's so much other visual interest in the room already that the trunk should probably recede a bit, and those two really stand out.
I like the black best. I think the green and blue are too close to the color of the couch. I might like red, but a different red than the one here (which seemed very brown to me). What a fun tool!
Black is beautiful!
It makes the room coalesce, rather than adding more to the variety of colors.
Runners-up would be red, and then the dark green.
I like either of the greens, leaning heavily towards the darker one. And a very neutral rug, like cream.
I like the black one best, and the darker green one next, for the trunk. Carpet/rug colors, I just don't know.
I would be inclined to do a rug that picked up maybe two or three of the main colors you're using in the room, with a thin bit of black in it somewhere.
The light blue is too light for my taste, but then, it's not me that will be living with it!
So, let's see
1--plum (or lilac as Zooza called it)
1--brown
1--dark green
3--black.
I have black paint. I am tired of all the black in the room: the piano, the TV and such, the Poang chairs. But, perhaps it is time to stop fighting and embrace it.
It could look a wee bit chic, no?
That red pillow on the chair... you should paint the trunk that color.
Chocolate brown or black would be my vote. As for a rug, I think something like this http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_iw_r_1_0/602-4636811-0316651?ie=UTF8&asin=B000ZHC9H0
would complement the room
Curing what ails me--what a beautiful rug! I need something dark: kids and spills, you know! But this is dark and vibrant--just gorgeous. The husband even likes it. Too bad we don't have Target, here. Maybe I can track down "Fieldcrest." Thanks.
