The Most Expensive Accessory I Will Always Own.

We did it.

Last week I saw an optometrist who diagnosed my current vision problem as the need for bi-focals. Bifocals! Let's officially join the old-fogey's club, shall we?

But encouraged by scb's advice that "seeing is good" The husband, the boy and I went frame shopping.

We chose these:
They are Burberry's in Gunmetal grey. They aren't exciting, they aren't a "statement." When it came right down to it I was nervous about putting something that looked "fashion-forward" and "fabulous" (with bling!) on my face that in ten years will look stupid, dated and silly. Of course, rectangular frames by then will scream "late oughts" just as my oval frames scream "mid to late nineties" now.
Oh well, I'm still excited. They should be ready in ten days.

Great news. You will enjoy seeing clearly. Just give yourself some time to get used to them, the bifocal thing may make things look strange for a while. I adjusted to them quite easily, but found that going down stairs I had to really bend my head down and make sure I looked through the *top* part of the glasses.

If you're going to have your frames for 10 years, it's a good idea to hold back on the bling. (My frames this time were totally, and exceedingly impractical -- oh well...) Those frames are really nice. I bet they look good on you, too.

Yay for you! (Let us know what it's like to see clearly. You can sing if you like, "I can see clearly now the blur is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way..."

Those are fantastic frames -- very elegant. (That's the result of trying to write a balanced comment about bifocals but getting distracted by Frame Lust. I can't wear rectangles. Damn, those are gorgeous! Understated, but... those sleek, chic lines!)

Those are really quite lovely. Contemporary, but I don't think they'll date too easily. Mine would be that finish but it's not the color for me. (It's wild how expensive those things are, isn't it?)

Well, scb, you have panache to go with your "exceeding impracticality." And I object. They aren't impractical, they're your statement!

Frame lust? That's a new one! The key to the rectangle we found, was not having it too wide across my face.

I'm glad you used the word "elegant." The husband said so too.

Expensive? Even with a 30% discount, they'll cost me $5 a month over 10 years. (Not adjusted for inflation or interest). Crazy.
