The Camera has died.

Somehow, the lens got "stuck," fully extended. No matter what I do, it won't retract.

I have to send it to another city for servicing, too. (This is quite common in Canada. The entire country has fewer people than one major U.S. city, or something like that, right?).

I am at a loss.

I am just flitting from one thing to another, all organization and all sensible plans gone.
Pffft.

The husband says that if it's going to "cost too much" then it may be time to "upgrade." And although I've been wanting a proper digital SLR, the idea of getting one under these circumstances is distressing. I need to research. I need to figure it all out, first.

And, really, all I wanted to do was take pictures of the living room with the rug today for you. And the shiny clean office. And the bathrooms.

Poot.

(PS--In a pinch, I can still take pictures with my film based SLR. The lens is really lousy, though.)

Isn't it amazing how this never happens when one just casually might want a photo, but only when one REALLY wants a photo NOW?

How long would it take to research a digital SLR that you can buy locally? If your husband's willing to spend the money, instant gratification is great fun.

Oh no! Looking forward to seeing it all...however and whenever!

Ack. I wish I was close enough to lend you my camera. Or Dad's film-based one (has great lenses).

What Wende said. How fast can you research? (Keeping in mind that perfection does not exist, and things are changing all the time, and you have to accept that the moment you decide on something, a new feature will become available. Tis life.)

I'm sorry to hear that, I was looking forward to seeing the rug in action! Good luck on the camera front, scb is right about whenever you pick what you want the options will change. Also since so many camera-philes upgrade their cameras regularly, have you considered looking for a deal on a used camera? I say this as an owner of a very nice but not new D70 that is serving me well. Just a thought, I don't know how easy that would be where you are but it can be easier on the budget.

That sucks. Is it possible that your current camera is under warranty and the repair wouldn't cost anything except perhaps shipping?

We finally got frustrated enough with the limitations of our digital point & shoots over the summer and bought a Canon Rebel XSI 450D. It was expensive, although we got some kind of discount--my husband did the purchasing, so I'm not exactly sure of the details. Anyway, it's wonderful and I know we aren't even close to tapping the potential--one of my goals for this coming year is to do just that. Anne's suggestion is a good one--also, maybe look for a refurbished model? As long as you can get a decent warranty.

I know you don't do a lot of scrapbooking anymore, but an SLR would be great if you get back into the craft. I'm starting to get interested in digital scrapbooking and I'm pretty excited about where the camera can take me on that journey (I'm less excited about my digi skills, though--those programs drive me crazy!).
