Small change for Big Impact

This is so much fun. Last week I showed you the dramatic change putting up a cabinet made to the kitchen.

I love it.

But when I looked at it objectively, through my camera's eye, the whole area to the left looked too "full." (The right side looks messy, but that's for another day, perhaps.)

I needed to lighten it up.

Can you see what I did?

(I really should have tidied that right area a bit! Oh well. Real life.)

Two things.

Ah, yes, here's the first: the pretties.

And the other?

So simple, but so sublime. I switched out the white Ikea plant pot for an aluminum Ikea plant pot.

Oooh shiny! I love how it now ties into the whole spice rack thing--and the knobs on the new cabinet.

Silly things. But it puts a smile on my face.

Before:
(Please ignore life going on in the hallway back there. Thanks!)

and After:

Total cost: $12.93 (CDN)
jars x2: $5.97
plant pot: $0.99

Nice! Love the new jars. BTW I love the elefant tray.

What are you planning for the right side? doors, or perhaps curtains?

You know, I hadn't thought about a door--but that is a great idea! It is a non=standard widthm, though, as it is a homemade cabinet.

Leena, What happened to your blog? I have discovered I can comment --but only in Internet Explorer. Firefox is giving me the trouble. IE, though, is horrible slow!

Oh, I deleted all the texts. It turns out I do not want the whole world to know what I'm doing, eventhough I know the whole world would never read it :)

I think I'll rather put pics on flickr, it seems less personal.
Other thing is that I'm spending whole lot of time on the computer at work and I just can't bear the idea of spending any more on my spare time. Blog writing can be very slow!

I hate ie too. I'm able to comment with firefox. Have you tried upgrading your browser? Or reinstalling it?

And to return on the cabinet issue. I'm certain you could make your own doors, if you want to. Those don't need much gear, hinges, wood and possibly a door knob. Can't wait to see what you come up with, even if it is not a door.

It's the little things that sometimes have the biggest impact and make us the most happy! :) Looks great!

Alana,
Love the doors! I also really like how the bottom of the new cabinet is in line with the bottom of the metal spice display. Have you thought above elevating the microwave shelf a couple of inches to continue that horizontal line across the wall? I think it might really tie everything together...
