My living room is never to my satisfaction. I got close, very close, during the Spring Cure of 2008, but in less than a month the dog chewed his way through everything that could be chewed.
And I wanted a rug.
The goal this year was to lighten everything up. We finally finished the faux fireplace face-lift and painted the walls. There are no pillows, no blankets, no artwork on the walls, and the brown drapes need their annual dry cleaning.
(The unflinching, extremely embarrassing before:)
And I still want a rug.
To do list:
Errands:
Buy shade for "new" lamp base
Take broken mirror sconce in for fixing
Take Brown Drapes in for cleaning
Decisions:
Commit to either a warm or cool colour scheme
Decide on artwork/mirror for Mantel
Declutter books and videos
Actions:
Steam clean couch

I am again reminded that your fireplace looks fantastic!
It looks like you've already got a warm color scheme going on in here with the sage(?) couch and the cream walls. I think a good rug would really tie it together, I don't know if this is your style but it's warm and it looks like it's got some green to go with the couch and red to go with the chest:

Also, any thoughts about painting the random chairs a matching color? Might tie them together a bit.
I love the fireplace and this room just needs a little love and a couple of tweaks before it looks great!
Thank you, Anne. It's perfect. We need an 8x10 for this room, unfortunately: which is one of the reasons we don't have one. That particular rug retails for 1200 US at that size--out of our reach even if they shipped to Canada (which I don't think they do. We've no C&B stores, here.)
I doubt they would be convenient enough to ship to Canada, and it is ridiculously expensive. I just liked the colors for your room. I do a lot of fantasy decorating in that vein for my house.
