I come from a long line of tree trimmers and arborists. I am ITCHING to come up there and cut that tree down. Look at how cute your house looks! Think about all that light! Plus, having that tree that close to your foundation can not be a good thing.

Pshaw, your spam filter is slacking off. I really love the open look without the trees, I think it makes your entryway so much more inviting. And then you could plant some rhodies or hydrangeas in front - something nice and big and flowery and showy (and low-maintenance).
Add another vote to those who want the shrub replaced!
You do need foundation plantings, but what you have now is overgrown. That's not surprising, given the age of the house. Landscaping needs to be updated every now and again.
(BTW, the GT content is incredible so far -- when we have a yard, I'm starting with your posts.)
