Wednesday's Project
The base is one of a pair I bought at a garage sale for $5. I don't think I have the other one, anymore, at least I haven't come across it in my basement excavation.
Tonight I put in a new socket (and shocked myself a wee bit in the process, literally got my wires crossed) and rounded up this lampshade (also from the basement).
I need your help:
I'm wondering 1) do the shapes work and 2) should I paint the base? I don't like it much in the wood. Or 3) should I just forget about such a clunky looking thing and find a different base?
Here it is on our new "family heirloom" in the living room.
Thoughts?
(added later) forgot to mention I'll be painting or staining those chairs, too. The blonde wood is, well, a bit blonde.
I like the shapes together, but I would definitely paint it. I guess the color might depend on where you put it- do Caius and Aurelia have reading lamps already?
ReplyDeleteI'd paint it.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest a regular conical shade, but with the square-er chairs, the square shade looks really good. So I guess it depends where you put it.
Yes, well, the lamp goes on the table and the chairs are with the table (for now) so square it will be.
ReplyDeleteThe kids have wall mountred ASTRID lamps. (Why do I know the names of all my IKEA? Weird).
I just rearranged the living room and put the table up against the faux fireplace...and the wood looks good there! So, since it's a small project we'll finish the fireplace first and see how it goes.
Thanks.
I like the square shade. (I like the wood lamp base as is, too.)
ReplyDeleteRearranged the living room????
I like the square shade too...perhaps you'd consider painting the base the same color you choose for your trunk? Would highlight the pretty silhouette of the lamp.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of painting the base the same shade as the trunk. Chinese red is pretty close to the colour of that talbe cloth, too.
ReplyDeleteWende's fingers may itch to play the piano--mine itch to paint!
I like the square shade. The base of the lamp is rounded and curved, so it makes a nice contrast.
ReplyDeleteI just found your site and am wandering through. I've already bookmarked it so I can come back again. You seem like an interesting family and I'm vicariously enjoying your projects.
I live in a small town in Illinois. There isn't an IKEA within a hundred miles and my personal style runs to the shabby chic.
