We are struggling with our circadian rhythm. No one, except the husband is sleeping anything like normal hours. For example, it is 2am here--and both kids and I are wide awake. And of course they refuse to do any school from about 5pm onwards. We just can't get anything done getting up at noon!
I found this poem by Emily Dickinson for us to memorize. It hit several chords. I thought I'd share:
Morning
Will there really be a morning?
Is there such a thing as day?
Could I see it from the mountains
If I were as tall as they?
Has it feet like water lilies?
Has it feathers like a bird?
Is it brought from famous countries
Of which I've never heard?
Oh, some scholar! Oh, some sailor!
Oh, some wise man from the skies!
Please to tell a little pilgrim
Where the place called morning lies!
Here's more of her poetry.
given a choice I would go to sleep between 2 am and 3 am and wake up between 10 and 11 am. Since I was a little kid I find I sleep better in the morning than at night. That made it hard when I worked and had to be in the car at 5.30 am.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys away due to the light levels? That always messed me up when I was in Alaska....
Yes, that's certainly part of it.
ReplyDeleteSunrise this morning was at 8:20, sunset will be at 5:15. So, actually, it isn't too bad--and as you can see, we are missing most of the sunlight in the day so it's hard to "re-set."
As well, it has been visciously cold this week (I keep telling myself it'll be worth it if it kills all the hibernating wasps and pine beetles!) and overcast.
Thanks for the sympathy!
